Maybe you think that your pals can take all the wedding photos that you need?
It's a way of saving money right?
But bear in mind that everyone will take lots of shots of key parts of the day, and their skills at photography will be varied. Don't expect a high quality photo from an average quality camera, and by the same token, just because your Uncle George has got an expensive camera and loads of expensive gear, that he will come up with romantic shots of all you want to remember about your day.
I recently saw a nice set of pictures that a kindly bride's Uncle had taken for her, but he took all the full length shots of her without any feet and one of two of the groomsmen did not feature in any of his shots.
And once the day is over, there's no going back to take the shot again.
Take a look at websites of local photographers in your area, but be aware that shots of brides in unlikely places with the most stunning effects in the photo will be taken using models. Not many real brides want to nip down to the beach and pose for super duper wedding shots that ruin her expensive wedding dress.
Go along and see a prospective wedding photographer.
Ask him or her questions about their service. How easy will it be to order copies? Can you have a dvd or cd with all your own wedding shots so that you don't have to keep paying an arm and a leg each time a relative asks you for a copy?
Will they stay on up to the first dance?
Are there any hidden extras?
Ask to see their work and ask "Is this a real bride ?", "If so where did the wedding take place?"
